Tryout

The Tryout Training is a pre-hire training curriculum designed to help potential staff “tryout” the ministry before coming on staff. They will understand what we do, how we do it and what is expected of them.

The Tryout Training section on Staff101 is for the person going through Tryout Training. At the beginning of most sessions, there is a short video to be viewed. At the end of each session, they are instructed to answer a few summary questions that will be emailed to their potential supervisor.

There are three components to Tryout Training.

  • Tryout Training Playbook
  • Funding Your Ministry
  • The Calvary Road

The Tryout Training will take approximately 15 hours, not including the reading of two assigned books. It is a significant commitment, but worth it. Our desire is to have potential staff complete the Tryout Training within a two-week period.

Here is a quick overview of the Tryout Training for someone interested in joining FCA staff:

  • Introduction to FCA and how FCA does ministry
  • 15 hours of training –not including the reading of the two assigned books.
  • Designed to be completed within two weeks or within an agreed upon time frame
  • A total of 12 Sessions, plus one Practical Training Session (shadowing a staff member), and two optional Staff Assessments: StrengthsFinder 2.0 and Gifts of Grace (tools to identify strengths and spiritual gifts)
  • An FCA staff person guides them during this process
  • A “tryout” period for both potential staff and FCA
  • Provides a filter for FCA to ensure people understand the role of FCA staff before making a commitment
  • Eliminates false expectations of the FCA ministry and helps FCA ensure the right people are on the team
  • Completion of the Tryout Training is mandatory before hiring can take place
